The Accelerated Reader™ Program is a computerized reading management system. It provides the teachers with timely and accurate information about each student's reading progress.
The way the Accelerated Reader™ Program works is simple:
- A student selects a book at his/her reading level from the book list of over 2400 titles
- The student reads the book
- The student takes a computerized multiple choice test
Every student at the school from grades 3 through 8 has a quarterly reading requirement of 10 selections. Each student must read and successfully pass three Accelerated Reader™ tests and read and write a book report on seven other selections (articles, short stories, books, etc.) each marking period.
Book reports are to be signed by a parent or guardian in recognition that the child actually read the stated book and that the report is written at a high quality.
Accelerated Reader™ tests are taken at school once a child has read a book from the approved list that is at his/her reading level. The book titles available can be found in grade level order if you continue to scroll down to the bottom of this page. Students are allowed to select any book that is at, above, or one year below their grade level. For instance, a sixth grader may select any book that is deemed 5.0 or higher according to the Accelerated Reader™ Program.
Students must pass the test with a score of 70% or higher in order for that book to count as one of the three quarterly required readings. A student should make sure that he/she has read the book both thoroughly and recently because once a student takes the test, he/she may not take that particular test again.
