Kellogg School International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Kellogg School is part of the Beverly Morgan Park Cluster of IB Middle Years Programme schools. Our school was the first IB MYP authorized programme in the State of Illinois and the Chicago Public Schools.

The Middle Years Programme(MYP), designed for students 11-16, has been offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization(IBO) since 1994. The aim was to develop a curriculum encouraging international Awareness in young people with emphasis on the skills, attitude and knowledge needed to participate in an increasingly global society.

MYP students are at an important age of transition of personal, social, physical and intellectual development. Emerging adolescents, are entering a phase where their social and cultural experiences in and outside of school have a determining impact on their perception of themselves, their self-esteem, their sense of identity, and their capacity to relate to others. The programme is devised to help students develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to be active and responsible in a changing and increasingly interrelated world.

Three fundamental concepts are the foundation of the programme; holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication. The MYP requires the school to teach a broad and balanced choice of subjects in every year of the programme, organized into eight subject groups:

The five Areas of Interaction provide the MYP's main focus for developing the connections between the disciplines, so that students will learn to see knowledge as an interrelated, coherent whole. The Areas of Interaction are imbedded in the curriculum and provide a focus through which the content is delivered. The Areas of Interaction are:

The MYP encourages the use of a variety of teaching and learning methodologies for different age groups. For more information about the International Baccalaureate Organization or the IB Middle Years Programme visit http//www.ibo.org.
